Saturday Night Live is still riding out their viral moment with a skit about addictive social media feeds. The widely discussed trend of “TikTok brainrot” has been thrown around since the app’s creation. (Which is to say, old news.) But SNL is successfully poking fun at endless scrolling and the creators that fill the never-ending feed. The sketch mocks everything on TikTok from the #Tradwife movement and NPC livestreams to a take on Harry Daniels serenading celebrities—except this time he sings to Kamala Harris. The sketch’s punchline hits home when one character is ignorant of the fact that his wife is in labor right beside him because of his scrolling. But, these sketches are, of course, being posted on TikTok themselves to millions of viewers (who are, to SNL’s credit, praising the impressions). Doesn’t that make them part of the brainrot?
