Though burnout is usually associated with adults, teens are feeling it. A recent study by Common Sense Media highlights the alarming prevalence of stress among teens, revealing that they struggle to maintain an “optimized lifestyle,” at least according to their own standards. The research shows that 56% of teens feel pressured to have a comprehensive “game plan” for their future when questioned about their career goals in life. Additionally, 53% report feeling the weight of expectations to earn achievements that will contribute to their success. Social media content is (of course) a driving factor, as young people see others their age maximizing their time in a way that seems too picture perfect to ever catch up to. As a result, many young people are neglecting their own well-being, with less sleep becoming a common sacrifice, driven by the belief that they must constantly outperform not only their peers, but themselves.
