The NHL is poking fun at Gen Z stereotypes as they start the new season.

Oct 10 2024

The NHL is poking fun at Gen Z stereotypes as they start the new season. Among the young players highlighted in the NHL’s “The Next Golden Era is Now” campaign are Connor Bedard, Jack Hughes, Connor McDavid, and Nick Suzuki, who humorously tackle assumptions about their generation. The ad starts with Bedard responding to a newscaster’s question about whether Gen Z is the laziest generation, to which he replies, “Yeah, we don’t work hard,” followed by a montage of training footage. Other common stereotypes addressed include young people’s screen time habits, their focus on self-care (which is often perceived as self-ish), and their disregard for dress codes. The video has already gained over 3M views on TikTok, with more than 600K likes. Gen Z viewers in particular love the lighthearted challenge to prevailing stereotypes about them, especially given how frequently these notions are being portrayed in the media. (NHL)
