A mural of a Gen Z Black athlete was vandalized in Rome. The name Paola Egonu might not ring a bell to you, but the 25-year-old Black volleyball athlete is a national icon in Italy—our data shows she’s one of Italian 13-24-year-olds’ favorite professional athletes. The Italian volleyball team won its first gold medal in the Paris Olympics and to celebrate the victory, a picture of Egonu was painted in the streets of the capital.
