OpenAI’s latest tool can detect the use of artificial intelligence in papers.A recent survey by the Center for Democracy & Technology found that 59% of middle and high school teachers believe that some students have used AI to aid in their schoolwork, a 17% increase from the previous year. And after two years of internal debate, OpenAI announced that they developed a method to detect when students use ChatGPT for essay writing, which shows 99.9% effectiveness in testing. However, OpenAI’s survey of ChatGPT users found that nearly 30% would lessen their use of ChatGPT if it introduced watermarks, while almost 70% expressed concern that cheating detection technology could result in false allegations of AI usage.
