England’s most famous private school is now banning smartphones for 13-year-olds.

Jul 17 2024

England’s most famous private school is now banning smartphones for 13-year-olds. Eton College just announced it will provide basic “brick phones,” which can only send and receive texts and calls, to new pupils starting in September. The decision made the headlines in the U.K. because Eton is a top boarding school, where even celebrities and royalties send their kids. But Eton’s choice isn’t an isolated case: many schools across the country are reviewing their mobile phone policy. Many are opting to ban or reduce the use of smartphones in schools to help with issues related to cyberbullying and mental health. (BBC)
