Instagram is implementing a “nighttime nudges” feature to help limit the time teens are spending on the app. The reminders will appear after 10pm on the Reels and DMs features, where a notification will prompt teens to take note of the late hour and encourage them to go to sleep. The feature cannot be turned off and will appear automatically, though teens can choose to ignore the message and continue using the app. Existing features like “Take a Break” and “Quiet Mode” are already aiming to limit teens screentime on Instagram, but plainly it seems the app is going to push harder for healthy social media boundaries amongst this demographic. This update follows Meta’s recent restrictions for sensitive content on teens’ accounts, showing the brand is appealing to widespread calls for better regulation for the platform’s youngest users.
