Twitch is laying off over 500 employees according to CEO Dan Clancy. This comes after parent company Amazon cut 400 roles in March 2023, resulting in 18K job losses. Several Twitch executives have also left the company recently and the brand announced its decision to shut down operations in South Korea due to high network fees. The layoffs are described as “a painful step” for the company, and Clancy says he will be hosting a stream to address the impact this will cause on the broader streaming community. The cuts at Twitch are also accompanied by hundreds of layoffs elsewhere at Amazon’s Prime Video and MGM Studios divisions. YPulse told you Twitch has recently tried to hold its ground in the gaming community but is gradually falling behind—while YouTube continues to be at the top of Gen Z and Millennials’ favored platforms for gaming content.
