Teens are increasingly using TikTok Shop to make some extra coin. TikTok Shop, which launched in September, has rapidly gained popularity, allowing users to promote various products and earn a commission. These videos are pushed out using TikTok’s algorithm, resulting in an influx of product content (amongst the tons that already exists without a direct to buy link). So, high schoolers are reportedly using TikTok’s new feature to showcase their social media marketing skills and earn millions of views—despite the platform’s policy against minors participating in the program, as some teens are exploiting a loophole in the age submission process. However, TikTok is acknowledging the issue and says it’s currently working on safeguards. (NBC)
