A new survey finds that Millennials and Gen Z don’t share the same online grocery shopping habits. As a result of the pandemic, online grocery orders and curbside pickup increased in popularity as it was both a safe and convenient way to shop. But data from PYMNTS finds that while Millennials (26-42-years-old) have increased online grocery order spending by 10% year-over-year, Gen Z is turning back to in-person grocery shopping as their online grocery spending decreased by 10%. Some of this difference can be explained by the fact that most Millennials have families to shop for, so online shopping provides time and convenience benefits. On the other hand, Gen Z is less likely to have to buy groceries for an entire family, so in-person grocery shopping is more appealing as they fly solo. YPulse’s Food Shopping and Trends report shows that the majority of Millennial parents have bought groceries online and are +8pts more likely to have done so than their non-parent peers.
