Billboard and TikTok paired up to launch a new music chart aimed at recognizing TikTok music. The two companies’ joint TikTok Billboard Top 50 is ranking the songs that are most popular on the social media app—as it’s been swaying top music for some time now. Sexyy Red’s “SkeeYee” is the first song to rank number one on this new chart, as it’s exploded amongst TikTok users posting viral dances and other videos to the sound. Other songs on the recent TikTok Billboard Top 50 include Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” and Taylor Swift’s “August.” TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development explains that the company recognized the power of the platform in influencing music and culture today, saying “…each week our passionate community of music fans drives songs onto the Billboard charts.” YPulse research shows that Gen Z and Millennials are discovering new music on social media the most out of any platform, especially on TikTok.
