Spain is having its MeToo moment. The president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, kissed one of the players during the celebration the evening the Spanish women’s squad won the Football World Cup last month. Rubiales refused to resign from his position and instead justified his action. But the pressure has been mounted: the women’s team refused to train as a sign of protest, the FIFA suspended Rubiales, the Spanish government got involved and legal action for sexual harassment has even been opened against him. This Spanish version of the MeToo movement is happening at a time when Spain is undergoing a societal shift toward greater gender inclusion. (El Pais)
