The upcoming release of iOS app Rooms is a cross between Roblox and Animal Crossing.Characterized by its “adorable, isometric rooms” Rooms allows players to navigate different 3D settings from pizza parlors to underwater coral reefs, each equipped with its own task including escape rooms, fortune-telling, and building music beats. The app was developed by the startup Things, founded by a “veteran” of Twitter, Google, Vine, and Facebook/Meta. He says that when designing the app, he and his team wanted something that had “no logical basis but has proven to feel good as we’ve done it more and more.” And with YPulse research showing the growing trend amongst Gen Z and Millennials of cozy gamers, who enjoy games that simply let players relax and unwind, Rooms may prove to be a hit with these young consumers.
