Hospitals have been testing Google’s medical-centered artificial intelligence chatbot. The company’s AI bot, Med-PaLM2, which is designed to answer medical information inquiries, has been going through testing at the Mayo Clinic research hospitals (and others) since April. This chatbot is set to compete with ChatGPT and is expected to engage more efficiently in medical conversations due to being developed with medical licensing exam content. Specific functions of the technology include summarizing documents and sorting mass amounts of health data. Google has previously said that AI models such as Med-PaLM2 have the potential to “be of tremendous value in countries that have more limited access to doctors.” YPulse research shows that while most of Gen Z and Millennials have a positive opinion of AI, they are still apprehensive about what the technology means for the future of human jobs.
