Gen Z is drinking less at concerts, causing venues to worry about making money.

Jun 07 2023

Gen Z is drinking less at concerts, causing venues to worry about making money. YPulse told you how Gen Z is the “sober curious” generation—and they’re actually drinking less than any other gen. Their alcohol-free habits are now bleeding into events like concerts, but given this was how many venues made a big chunk of their money, they’re being sent into a panic. According to a 2020 Billboard study, this gen “is drinking so much less at concerts that live venue owners are worried the hangover from the 2020 shutdown is going to keep giving them headaches, three years later.” But another important factor to consider about the decline has to do with concertgoers having “much less disposable income as prices for just about everything else — including (especially) tickets — go up and wages remain stagnant.” Our data also shows that 81% of young people agree concert tickets are too expensive, so extra expenses when they do go to a show may be their last priority.
