TikTok just released a Pride Month Visionary Voices list highlighting LGBTQ+ creators. TikTok is starting the celebration of Pride month by highlighting its LGBTQ+ creators, such as Jake Shane (@octoupslover8), Devin Halbal (@hal.baddie), and “The Old Gays” (@oldgays). This move not only shows the app’s support of Pride, but also gives a nod to the creators that help to retain its popularity online. But the Visionary Voices list isn’t the only Pride effort on this platform; the “You Belong Here” campaign is also being promoted to “acknowledge the need for protections and safeguards to keep LGBTQ creators safe.” Popular creators (who really gained their fame through TikTok) such as Dylan Mulvaney have received backlash on other social media platforms, so TikTok is making an effort to set a precedent of lifting up LGBTQ+ creators instead.
