YouTube’s new CEO is strategically teaming up with the platform’s creators to compete with other media outlets.

May 31 2023

YouTube’s new CEO is strategically teaming up with the platform’s creators to compete with other media outlets. Back in February, YouTube took on Neal Mohan as its new CEO, and since then he has collaborated with some of YouTube’s biggest creators, such as Airrack (13.3M subscribers) to appeal to young viewers from other platforms. With so many platforms, especially video-based, to choose from, young consumers’ attention is a valuable currency. But amidst a battle to keep YouTube on top in the age of TikTok, Mohan explains that the platform isn’t going anywhere: “More people are making short videos on smartphones; artificial intelligence is making it easy to instantly edit those clips; and young TV watchers are increasingly tuning in to YouTube videos.” YPulse’s recent Social Media Monitor report data shows 46% of Gen Z and Millennials are using YouTube daily—but more Gen Z use TikTok daily (63%) and more Millennials use Facebook (58%).
