Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, is showcasing Black excellence in beach reads. Hostin wanted to read lighter, more uplifting books as a break from talking about political and racial injustice at her job, but struggled to find stories celebrating Black culture and focusing on Black issues in a contemporary setting. This frustration inspired her to write her own trilogy, starting with Summer on The Bluffs (2021), and followed by Summer on Sag Harbor (2023), with the third still to come. The series is set in historically Black beach communities and explores the lives of a diverse range of characters, including the Black elite and those from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Hostin wanted to showcase the excellence and generational wealth within the Black community and shed light on lesser-known historical stories. Through extensive research and interviews with friends and acquaintances, she crafted a story that combines elements of history, social dynamics, and romance. The books have garnered significant attention, and Hostin hopes to use her platform as a bestselling author to uplift other writers and share diverse stories. (Essence)
