Michelle Obama is launching a healthy food and bev company for kids. The former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama just announced that she’s co-founding a nutrition company called Plezi Nutrition that will offer healthier food and drink options for children. The company’s first product, a drink called Plezi, has 75% less sugar than leading fruit juices, with no added sugar and additional fiber and nutrients. The move comes amid rising obesity rates in the U.S., with nearly 20% of children and teenagers aged two-19-years-old considered obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Obama says Plezi aims to change the food and beverage industry and promote healthier habits for children, keeping true to the mission she started with her “Let’s Move!” initiative during her time in the White House. YPulse’s Cooking and Diets report shows 69% of Millennial parents agree they’re worried their family is not eating enough healthy foods, and brands can certainly help them out with more accessible, nutritional options.
