France is considering banning the sale of cigarettes to young people under the age of 21 in an effort to reduce the number of smokers in the country. The French government set the ambitious goal to decrease the current smoking rate of 25% of the population to 5% by 2032. In addition to creating more smoke-free areas and raising the price of cigarettes, the ban on tobacco sales to under-21s is one of the measures being considered. Data from YPulse’s WE Health, Drugs and Risky Behavior Report shows that 21% of 13-39-year-olds in France report smoking on a weekly basis or more. (Le Figaro)
