Everyone has been loving Netflix and A24’s short series Beef, but the cast controversy might be taking away from the show’s brilliance. Beef follows comedian and actress Ali Wong and The Walking Dead star Yeun Sang-yeop, known professionally as Steven Yeun, after the two get in a road rage incident that leads to a chaotic series of events. Throughout the 10 episodes, the show dives into themes of generational trauma and is being praised for authentically portraying East Asian culture without seeming forced. However, some fans are having trouble watching / enjoying the show because of actor David Choe, whose past comments about “rapey behavior” have been resurfaced. Show creator Lee Sung Jin and executive producers Ali Wong and Steven Yeun recently released a joint statement to Vanity Fair, seemingly defending Choe while condemning his previous comments. (NBC)
