Influencer parents are raising resentful children. Family lifestyle videos documented through YouTube (and now TikTok) have proven to be a particularly popular genre, but some parents are revealing too intimate details of their kids’ lives and they’re growing up with a massive digital footprint they had no say in. The content goes beyond sharing a photo of their kids’ kindergarten play or their graduation, some videos show explicit details of children being disciplined by their parents or the layout of their personal belongings. As the children of these parent influencers grow up, they’re revealing that content created about their lives were often monetized without their consent. For these kids, the pressure to produce content is starting as infants and the lack of labor laws surrounding child influencers is lagging behind the culture. (Teen Vogue)
