Meta is ending its Reels Play bonus program, leaving many young content creators in a financial lurch. The program awarded payments to select users based on the number of video views they generated, and was a mainstay for many small content creators on both Instagram and Facebook. While bigger-name creators make money off of brand deals, those with smaller followings were able to monetize their view rates through Meta’s program—which was vital to their efforts to become full-time creators. YPulse’s New Content Creators trend report found the majority of young people are creating content for an audience beyond their family and friends, making almost everyone in these generations an influencer in their own right. Meanwhile, many Gen Z see content creation as a viable career, or at least side hustle. But the influencer landscape is becoming increasingly crowded and fragmented, making money is getting harder and harder. (BuzzFeed)
