Bare Minimum Monday is the latest work trend—or at least buzzy phrase.

Mar 15 2023

Bare Minimum Monday is the latest work trend—or at least buzzy phrase. Last year, we saw “quiet quitting” go viral among Gen Z, who coined the term to describe the trend of consciously not going above and beyond at work. The catchphrase spawned innumerable headlines and sent a cold chill through HR departments everywhere. But while many Gen Z pushed back against the trend, saying it perpetuated misconceptions about their generation, a new buzzy workplace concept has been attributed to this generation: Bare Minimum Monday. The trend is exactly what it sounds like—using Mondays to do the bare minimum at work—and was popularized by TikTok creator Marisa Jo in a viral video that garnered more than 1.8 million views. While it’s impossible to know just how many Zs have jumped on the bandwagon, the rise of the phrase points to the larger trend of young people experiencing work-related burnout—and leaving their jobs to seek better opportunities.
