An NYC school is offering alternative career paths for Black and Latino students.

An NYC school is offering alternative career paths for Black and Latino students. The Marcy Lab School in Brooklyn has created a one-year program that help students get jobs in the tech industry. The program, which began in 2019, went from nine students to now having over 60. It grew to be a popular alternative thanks to a curriculum that focuses on teaching engineering skills, coding, and networking but also emphasizes starting their day with “mindfulness: meditation, journaling, and goal-setting.” Several foundations, including Tiger Global Impact Ventures, Charles Hayden Foundation, and Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation support the program, and “they also have dozens of companies that support, train and hire graduates, including JP Morgan Chase, WW International, and Squarespace.” YPulse’s Education report data shows 80% of BIPOC Gen Z and Millennials agree: “I wish I’d learned more about alternatives to a traditional college education growing up.” (CNBC)
