Climate activists targeted more than 400 auto ads in Western Europe to put the spotlight on the industry’s responsibility for climate change. The “subvertising” activist group Brandalism specializes in turning billboard ads into caricatures, and last week for the European Motor Show in Brussels they targeted the car industry—specifically BMW and Toyota. (Last year, it was the banking sector.) The group “hijacked” billboards by the brands across Europe, changing them to call out greenwashing. Climate activists want to highlight the need for stronger laws from governments to control the advertising of ecologically hazardous items, and to prevent large polluters from making deceptive green claims. YPulse told you how young Europeans rely on brands to help them fight climate change, with 82% saying they think brands should talk to consumers about climate change. (The Drum)
