TikTok’s CEO flew to Brussels to reassure the commissioners amidst data privacy concerns.

Jan 18 2023

TikTok’s CEO flew to Brussels to reassure the commissioners amidst data privacy concerns. TikTok has been under the scrutiny of the European Union for a little while now, mainly because of the fears of misuse of personal data from the Beijing-based company. And as the European Union is launching two new bills on digital privacy—the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA)—it continues to put pressure on social media companies, which is why TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew flew to Brussels and met with several European Commissioners last week. TikTok is now the most used social media platform among European Gen Z, with 74% of them reporting using the platform, so bans on the app could have a significant impact on user numbers. (Euronews)
