Gen Z and Millennials don’t want diamond rings anymore. According to a Minted poll, Gen Z and Millennials are growing more interested in alternative style rings—some are even considering tattoos in place of jewelry. The study shows that “one in five [M]illennials would be open to tying the knot permanently with a tattoo ring, more than any other generation.” Overall, 74% of Gen Z and Millennials say they’re open to alternative style rings. Other materials topped the list for diamond replacements, including “metal (40%), emeralds (37%) and sapphires (36%).” The trend is expected to take off this year as more Gen Z and Millennials are set to plan their weddings—and YPulse research found that the number of young people who say big, expensive rings are staying in style went down from 69% in 2019 to 58% in 2022.
