Experts are warning that Gen Z workers lack the communication skills needed for the workforce. According to the World Economic Forum, “by 2025, Gen Z will make up 27% of the global workforce,” and while nearly a third of Gen Z says they feel prepared for the workforce, they’re usually referring to the technical skills they’ve gained. Studies are showing that soft skills among this gen are lacking—mostly due to the pandemic setting them behind in things like communication and public speaking. With remote work increasing, it’s becoming more difficult for Gen Z to build these soft skills, and career coaches suggest that companies provide specific training and “the companies that already provide extensive training are the ones Gen Z wants to work for.” YPulse’s Employment and Career Goals report data shows that 82% of Gen Z say having a mentor to help them achieve their goals is important to them.
