A mom’s post in the “Parenting” subreddit sparked an online debate about Boomers babysitting their grandkids.

Jan 06 2023

A mom’s post in the “Parenting” subreddit sparked an online debate about Boomers babysitting their grandkids. The frustrated mother jumped on the thread to vent about how she never really asks her parents to babysit and when she does, the request is often met with a “no.” This promptly brought on a discussion among other Millennial parents who are going through the same and who mention they remember spending plenty of time at their grandparents’ houses as children, but feel guilty for asking now that they’re parents themselves. One top comment reads, “I spent many summers at my great grandparents or my aunt’s home, but I just couldn’t imagine my kids doing the same.” Others suggest that if the OP mom wants to be petty, “deny them access to the grandkids some of the time.” YPulse data shows 30% of Millennials parents say their family members watch their kids during the weekdays, but clearly there is generational tension about the issue.
