Beth Mead becomes the first woman footballer to receive the 2022 BBC Sports Personality award in the U.K. Women’s football really took off in Western Europe last year after the England female squad brought themselves to the final of the Euro, and won—beating records of audience and attendance. Beth Mead has now made history again for women’s football by becoming the first female footballer to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The Arsenal and England forward, whose performance at the Euro helped her win the award, also received the Golden Boot. Data from YPulse’s Sports & Athletics Report shows that more than three in five young Europeans believe women’s sports are just as interesting as men’s sports. (BBC)
