American Girl named Kavi Sharma their 2023 doll of the year. Making history as the first South Asian to be named Doll of the Year, Kavi Sharma is the brand’s second Indian American girl—one from New Jersey who loves to sing and dance. In a statement, American Girl said, “Just like all our beloved characters, Kavi’s culturally relevant and aspirational stories help inspire kids to shine bright in their own way and be proud of who they are.” Later this year, Kavi will come equipped with her own back story and will even have a separate hardcover book written by The New York Times bestseller Varsha Bajaj that will dive deeper into her life. Stories like these are important to young BIPOC girls who look for representation in their toys and entertainment.
