TikTok is becoming YouTube-esque by testing a horizontal screen mode. Gen Z’s favorite social platform has been dipping into long-form video the last several months, but now they’re testing a horizontal full screen mode among select users, mimicking YouTube’s format and attracting users to longer videos up to 10 minutes (an ability that rolled out earlier this year). Those who receive access to the new feature will notice a “full screen” button appear on videos that are square or rectangle in their feed while holding the phone upright. Once the button is clicked, the video will shift into horizontal mode and allow the video to be shown across the entire screen. This invites creators to make content strictly on TikTok instead of letting viewers know they have longer videos like cooking or makeup tutorials over on YouTube. However, YPulse research shows that Gen Z uses different apps for different reasons, and they generally prefer each social app stick to their original appeal. (TechCrunch)
