Gen Z wants to come home for the holidays but many of them can’t afford to. According to travel booking app Hopper, “travelers can expect to pay up to 39% more for a round-trip flight around Christmas compared with last year.” These rising costs are forcing many young adults who want to visit family over the holidays to rely on their parents to cover their costs. Research from Credit Karma shows that while about half of Gen Z plans on traveling home, 41% will be relying on their parents or family members to pay for their accommodations. And sadly, one in ten Gen Z say they won’t be able to travel back home because neither they nor their parents can afford it. YPulse’s Winter Holiday Plans report data shows that 27% of Gen Z and Millennials plan on traveling to visit both their family and friends, but over half (55%) say they’ll be staying home. (CNBC)
