The Crypties Awards were meant to celebrate crypto currency’s future—but the event ended up being a giant roast.

The Crypties Awards were meant to celebrate crypto currency’s future—but the event ended up being a giant roast. With crypto continuing to crash and inflation persisting, it may not have been the best time to celebrate the crypto industry, but Wednesday’s Crypties Awards in Miami went on with the show. The show celebrated winners across 10 categories, including NFT Project of the Year and Metaverse Project of the Year. But there was an overall humorous vibe with presenter Joshua Ostrovsky, known professionally as The Fat Jewish, quipping, “This event is in Florida, the home of the natural disaster…and tonight, we’re going to celebrate a man-made one: cryptocurrency,” and “Your skeptical friends and your out-of-touch parents have told you that cryptocurrency was a passing fad and that all of these coins one day would be totally worthless, right? But tonight…we defiantly say, ‘Only some of them!’ Right? Am I right?” The event even made light of the celebrities who tried to enter the crypto space over the last year and failed. Despite the crypto crash in May, Millennials are still investing—and YPulse research shows they want crypto to become a part of their everyday lives. (NYT)
