Black-owned athleisure brand Actively Black is launching a capsule collection in partnership with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The brand, which celebrates Black style and culture, is making major moves in the industry, and founder Lanny Smith believes the brand will rival Nike in the near future. Over the course of three drops (the first already released and the next coming later this month), the collection includes “performance shirts, tights, hoodies, and joggers in black, purple, and gray, embellished with official Black Panther artwork, and sizes range from XS-4XL, honoring body diversity.” The collection is intended to inspire “strength and pride” in the Black community, which is how Smith felt the first time he saw the original Black Panther film and was able to connect with a superhero that looked like him. YPulse’s Representation in Action trend report data shows that 79% of BIPOC young people say they wish they saw more multi-racial people in lead roles. (Essence)
