In an effort to fuel the circular economy, Marks & Spencer is launching its own clothing rental collection, with lines starting at £39.

In an effort to fuel the circular economy, Marks & Spencer is launching its own clothing rental collection, with lines starting at £39. M&S just announced the launch of its “M&S Capsules,” consisting of up to seven-piece collection that can be rented for as little as £39 ($50). The supermarket chain is launching the rental scheme in conjunction with Hirestreet, and advertised this new feature as “part of its target to become a net zero business by 2040.” U.K. consumers will be able to choose from a wide selection of clothes from Marks & Spencer, and wear them for up to 30 days. Rental clothing is on the up, and young consumers are increasingly open to the idea, influenced by celebs who are adopting the trend—remember Carrie Johnson’s rental bridal dress? Although there is still much to say over the actual environmental value of renting clothes compared to buying second-hand or recycling clothes. (The Guardian)
