National Geographic’s King Tut exhibit is designed with social media in mind.

Nov 03 2022

National Geographic’s King Tut exhibit is designed with social media in mind. Similar to Van Gogh’s Starry Night exhibits, Nat Geo is celebrating one hundred years since the discovery of Tut’s remains by creating an immersive phygital experience. Currently open in NYC and Washington (with more locations to come), the “space features digital exhibits, some replicas of the artifacts, a projection-mapped tour of the ancient Egyptian’s vision of the afterlife and a virtual reality tour of the tomb.” The design is littered with photo opportunities (for the perfect BeReal moment) and is intended to blend education with entertainment in order to attract young people—a trend that museums have been working towards adopting. YPulse’s Experiences report shows that Millennials are more likely to attend culturally relevant or educational events such as museums and immersive art experiences than Gen Z.
