Oct 28 2022

Aumio is a new mindfulness app for children claiming to be the “Disney for mental health.” Based in Berlin, the app first launched in 2020, a time when children 10-years-old and under needed mindfulness just as much as teens and adults. While Aumio features some gamified elements to keep childrens’ attention, the app is “primarily a compendium of original audio meditations, stories and soundscapes, [that are] mostly under 10 minutes and available in English or German.” Meditation exercises are designed to relax children and even have certain “emergency” features like SOS Focus, SOS Worries, and SOS Tantrum. While there is limited free content available, the app is actually covered by some of Germany’s largest health insurers. YPulse’s Mental Health report data shows that 66% of Millennial parents have downloaded / are interested in downloading a meditation / mindfulness app in the last year.
