She Matters is a BIPOC-focused postpartum startup helping women get the care they need and deserve. Founder Jade Kennedy was inspired to help Black women receive proper care after her personal experience with being dismissed by health professionals during her postpartum anxiety and depression. She Matters is “a digital health platform focused on supporting Black women experiencing postpartum comorbidities, and providing cultural competency training for care providers.” The training involves providers being required to attend courses and work with Black women in their communities. In addition to physician training, She Matters also provides “The Pink Book” (in reference to “The Green Book” that was used by Black motorists during the Jim Crow period) that includes an interactive map showing the safest hospitals with large BIPOC populations. YPulse’s recent Millennial Parenting report shows that Black women are worried about having children later in life because of high risk pregnancies. (TechCrunch)
