Gen Z and Millennials are driving the future of the plant-based industry. According to the NPD Group, young consumers who eat plant-based foods are “seek[ing] a variety of protein analogues, flavor profiles, and formats,” which is creating space for brands across varying categories including frozen, shelf-stable, and snack options. Not only are more brands adding plant-based ingredients, they’re gearing their marketing towards Gen Z and Millennials specifically because of their passion for sustainability and overall animal / environmental welfare. YPulse’s recent The Cause Conundrum report data shows that over a third of young consumers have sustainability in mind when buying a product and 63% say that it’s important for the food they buy to be sustainable / eco-friendly.
