Millennials are increasingly embracing the child-free life. A new report from the Pew Research Center found that 44% of 18-49-year-olds without kids say it’s unlikely they’ll have any—up +7pts from the 37% who reported the same in 2018. The report also found that 61% of Millennials say the main reasons they won’t have kids is that they can’t afford it, but many also cite freedom: 57% say there’s a lot they want to do in life, and they don’t want to make sacrifices in order to raise kids. YPulse’s most recent Millennial parenting survey shows that while the majority of Millennials either have kids (40%) or want them someday (26%), among non-parents, 40% report not wanting kids. Meanwhile, 71% of non-parents agree, “I don’t want to bring a child into this world right now.” While many Millennials are childless due to their extended singledom and delayed life milestones, worries about climate change, finances, and more are making many opt out of parenthood completely.
