TikTok is increasing the age requirements to host livestreams—and allowing creators to go live for an adults-only audience.

TikTok is increasing the age requirements to host livestreams—and allowing creators to go live for an adults-only audience. YPulse research shows that the majority of Gen Z sign onto social media for entertaining content, and TikTok is working on making sure it’s age appropriate for them. Currently, users must be at least 16-years-old to host a livestream, but starting late November, the age requirement is being bumped up to 18-years-old. For the adults-only livestreams, TikTok is gearing up for their release over the next few weeks after testing the ability over the summer. While the app isn’t planning on broadcasting adult content like OnlyFans (creators will still have to adhere to the app’s policies), they want a space for creators to post content that prevents minors from seeing anything unsuitable or uninteresting to them. For example, a comedy routine with NSFW references or if a creator tells a story that involves adult-related topics. It all boils down to making Gen Z’s favorite app as personal as possible.
