Walmart is getting in on building their own metaverse experience to reach young consumers. On Roblox, Walmart Land and Universe of Play is planning on offering Gen Z what they’re calling “verch” (virtual merchandise) as well as various perks. For example, Walmart Land’s October virtual concert, Electric Fest, will feature artists Madison Beer, Kane Brown, and Yungblud as well as an “obstacle course of oversized items from the retailer’s Gen Z-focused beauty brands, such as skin-care products from Bubble and makeup from Uoma by Sharon C, and a virtual dressing room with apparel from its exclusive fashion lines.” Meanwhile their Universe of Play has “games that feature items from Walmart’s top toy list for the holiday season — like Razor scooters and Paw Patrol and Jurassic World characters.” YPulse’s metaverse trend research shows that 64% of virtual gamers say they like when brands open virtual stores in their virtual worlds.
