Spotify is going full speed ahead with their new audiobook launch. Spotify is looking to be young consumers’ go-to listening platform for all things music, podcasts, and now audiobooks—and they’re appealing to young consumers who are making reading cool again. If you haven’t heard already, Gen Z’s affinity for podcasts and large subcultures like #BookTok are driving book sales, prompting Spotify to compete against Audible, which is currently the largest audiobook platform—but not for long. Spotify is going to offer users 300,000+ titles (100,000 more than Audible) within a new Audiobooks hub on the platform. Like other services, Spotify will allow the “ability to download titles for offline listening, adjust the playback speed, rate titles and listen across devices,” but unlike other services, each book will be individually priced and direct users to Spotify’s website to complete their purchase.
