A new U.K. podcast is educating Gen Z about the bits of British history they aren’t learning in school.

Sep 21 2022

A new U.K. podcast is educating Gen Z about the bits of British history they aren’t learning in school. Called FOMO, the podcast is voiced by a diverse cast of Gen Z activists and takes an in-depth look at the U.K.’s colonial, religious and political history that has been scrubbed from history books. When we ask young consumers what they think should be taught in school that isn’t, “true history  / slavery / colonial history” makes the top 10. Meanwhile, organizations such as The Black Curriculum and the ‘Why is My Curriculum White?’ campaign have been working to decolonize the curriculum for years, while in the wake of George Floyd’s murder in 2020, a petition demanding the government teach Britain’s colonial past amassed over 268,000 signatures and was debated in the House of Commons – but ultimately failed. As part of a larger push to diversify Britain’s educational curriculum, FOMO takes matters into its own hands in an accessible medium and format. (Dazed Digital)
