Thredup’s new hotline is helping Gen Z through their fast fashion addiction.

Aug 19 2022

Thredup’s new hotline is helping Gen Z through their fast fashion addiction. According to a Thredup survey of about 2,000 Gen Z consumers this summer, “one in three said they feel addicted to fast fashion.” Stranger Things’ famed sassy little sister Priah Ferguson is working with the brand to answer their new Fast Fashion Confessional Hotline. Those debating whether or not they want to buy a new Shein skirt or Revolve romper can dial 1-855-Thredup and Priah Ferguson will answer the call with, “If you’re on the verge of a splurge — girl, no. Press 1 and I’ll talk you out of giving fast fashion your hard-earned cash.” Researchers are noticing Gen Z’s purchasing habits are constantly at odds with their values, but Thredup says the goal of their hotline is to tap those values and redirect young consumers to make the choices they actually want to make. YPulse’s Fashion Preferences and Style report data shows that while 61% of Gen Z agrees shopping fast fashion is bad for the environment, 58% agree with the statement: “I shop fast fashion and I don’t feel guilty about it.” (Vogue BusinessFashion United)
