TikTok’s new feature is enhancing their search functions. While users can already use the search icon to discover any content or trends, the app wants them to be able to search in more than one place. TikTok will now be highlighting key words in comment sections, linking search results for terms. While their search expansion efforts are only available to a small test group at the moment, TikTok plans on acknowledging the fact that “young people are looking to discover content in new and immersive ways.” The platform is clearly interested in competing with Google, who recently reported that Gen Z is now using TikTok as their main search engine. Google’s head of Knowledge and Information noted that “nearly 40% of young people go to TikTok or Instagram when looking for a place to eat, as opposed to Google Maps or Search.” YPulse research shows TikTok has surpassed all other platforms and has become the top social platform for Gen Z.
