Is Instagram borrowing from BeReal now, too? This past week, Insta quietly rolled out a new feature on their TikTok-like Reels called Dual, letting users record via both their front and back cameras at the same time. The feature seems to emulate BeReal, which is now the number one downloaded app in the App Store. Ironically, BeReal is the antithesis to Instagram with their focus on authenticity—but Insta is missing the point of why users have been flocking to BeReal in the first place and why their updates have not been well-received. For users, the actual front and back camera feature is not nearly as important as the more authentic kind of content that’s being created on the app. YPulse’s Social Media Behavior report data shows 55% of Gen Z and Millennials have been feeling social media fatigue and with all the uproar on Instagram, that number may increase.
