TikTok’s tendency to overuse and combine products is potentially super harmful. #CleanTok is one of the largest subcultures on the app, currently at 45 billion views thanks in large part to its relaxing ASMR content. (Yes, cleaning content is relaxing.) However, the hashtag has been raising eyebrows for creators’ use of “product overload…which involves users filming themselves loading up a toilet, bath or sink with copious amounts of astringent cleaning products.” The act has its own hashtag, #ProductOverload, with 721 million views showcasing toilets so filled with chemicals that they look like someone dumped cotton candy ice cream into them with their rainbow-hues and puffy textures. Now, health experts are weighing in on the dangers associated with mixing cleaning products and the fumes associated with them, warning that mixing chemicals deliberately is never a good idea and can ruin plumbing systems as well. YPulse research shows Gen Z is spending an increasing amount of time on social media and the content they’re loving involves soothing ASMR. (GoodHousekeeping)
